Mother's Day Dining Specials

Local restaurants are featuring special menus for the May 9 celebration.

With Mother's Day quickly approaching, a number of Garden City restaurants already have special menus planned for the holiday.

At the grand ballroom of The Garden City Hotel, children can decorate cookies as gifts for their mothers and then the family can enjoy a brunch together. General manager Nasser Samman says, "Our brunch makes every Sunday special yet on Mother's Day we add another dimension for the whole family. Children can create their own special presentation to moms with personally decorated cookies. We look forward to warmly welcoming everyone."

The cost is $69 for adults and $34.50 for children 12 and under; the prices do not include tax and gratuity. Two seatings are available at noon and 3 p.m.

Guests can enjoy a wide assortment of food, including omelets, made-to-order pasta and sauces, salads, meat from the carving station, seafood, fresh fruit, cheeses, muffins, pastries, breads and a chocolate fountain.

Other restaurants are serving up specials as well. Seventh Street Café will have seatings all day from noon to 7 p.m. The cafe's regular menu, in addition to some specials such as soft crab shell francaise, leg of lamb, seafoord ravioli and an asparagus and mozzarella appetizer, will be offered. Other special dishes will be announced closer to the date.

"Their food is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for Mother's Day or any special event," says local food fanatic Eric Sherman.

Down the street, diners can visit Leo's, which will be serving their regular brunch items including breakfast staples like French toast, omelets, eggs benedict and corned beef hash. The final Mother's Day menu is made up only a few days before the big event; however, they do plan to serve salmon, lobster, seafood salad, Tuscan salad, Thai chicken salad and a pasta special.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., B.K. Sweeney's Uptown Grille will be serving their regular brunch menu featuring dishes such as quiche du jour, steak and eggs and breakfast wraps with eggs, bacon and cheese. The regular dinner menu plus Mother's Day specials will be served from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dishes will include New Zealand baby lamb chops, spring artichoke chicken breast, roast prime rib of beef and a 16 oz. New York shell steak topped with gorgonzola crumbles.

Novita will be serving a large number of specials in their brunch menu beginning at 11 a.m. Nutella French toast, Tuscan home fries, penne ala vodka, pork loin scarpiello, mussels oreganta, a raw bar, honey baked ham and a Caesar salad are only a smattering of the delicious options that Novita has planned for the day.

Those with a sweet tooth should visit The Cupcake Corner. Beginning on Mother's Day weekend, May 8-9, they will be introducing a new line of crepes starting with sweet cheese with strawberries and bananas, apple cinnamon and plain with berries. Chocolate ganache filled cupcakes, dubbed Mother's Day heaven cupcakes, will be available this week through the holiday.

Perfect for a tasty gift for mothers, floral inspired cupcakes in pastel colors with different flowers on them will also be on sale.

Walk Street will not announce their specials until closer to the date; however, they have two seatings planned for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Waterzooi does not plan to release their specials until closer to the date either, but they promise to provide an exquisite dining experience, as restaurant regular Laura La Vacca says, "This is a great restaurant if you want a different type of experience. I love the way they serve their food in one big pot, and you can all share."

Reservations are strongly recommended, as families are sure to be lining up early for these mouthwatering meals. Have another place in mind to dine this Sunday? Check out our complete Garden City restaurant directory right here on Patch.
