Multiple People Driving With Suspended LIcenses: Garden City PD

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Aug. 20.
- A car was stopped by an officer on Clinton Road for traveling 55 MPH in a 30 MPH zone on Aug. 13. The driver, a 41-year-old woman from Valley Stream, was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- Officers investigated a burglary that occurred at approximately 9 p.m. at a Rockaway Avenue home on Aug. 13. The rear patio doors were found damaged and a rear window was found damaged and open. Jewelry and other items were reported stolen from a bedroom.
- Garden City detectives arrested a 39-year-old woman from Baldwin for forgery and possession of forged documents on Aug. 14. In an effort to have her child registered to attend the Garden City School District, the woman presented forged notarized and signed documents to the district which stating she was leasing a home in Garden City. Upon investigation, the owner of the home said he had no knowledge of the woman, nor was she leasing a home from him. During the investigation, it was also determined that the woman's child had already attended the Garden City Schools from 2016-19 based on false documents she presented stating she was a resident of a Garden City Apartment Complex even though she did not live there. The investigation is ongoing.
- A laptop computer was reported stolen from a room in Blodgett Hall at Adelphi University on Aug. 14.
- The Garden City Fire Department responded to a home for a carbon monoxide alarm on Aug. 14. Upon arrival, firefighters detected high CO readings apparently due to a defective boiler. The area was rendered safe by the firefighters.
- Officers investigated reports of a person in the driveways of a Clinton Road residence and a Locust Street residence checking vehicle door handles on Aug. 15.
- Officers conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Clinton Road on Aug. 15. Eight vehicles were inspected; five were placed out of service. Officers issued 44 violations, including unsecured load, hazardous material and overweight violations.
- A Whitehall Boulevard resident received a video system alert of a man checking car door handles in his driveway on Aug. 16.
- Video footage shows a man on the steps of a 1st Street home on Aug. 17 going through packages left on the stoop. The man left the scene without taking anything.
- On Aug. 17, a resident reported a check she placed in the mail was intercepted and rewritten to a different person for a loss of $8,500.
- Loose change was reported stolen from a car parked at a Cathedral Avenue home on Aug. 18.
- Officers responded to an alarm at the school administration building on Aug. 18 and discovered that someone entered an unsecured first-floor window and apparently left when the alarm sounded. There is no loss at this time. Officers secured evidence at the scene.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Garden Street and Clinton Road on Aug. 19, officers arrested a 21-year-old man from Hempstead for driving with eight license suspensions, unsafe lane usage, and an outstanding Suffolk County Traffic Warrant.
- A vehicle was stopped by an officer on Clinton Road and Brook Street for speeding (56 MPH) on Aug. 19. Upon investigation, the driver, a 25-year-old man from Westbury, was charged with driving with a suspended license, and excessive speed.
- Officers investigated a report of numerous pieces of mail found on the ground on Harrison Street on Aug. 19. Upon investigation, it was determined that much of the found mail was taken from a mailbox at the New Hyde Park Post Office. The US Postal Inspector’s Office is assisting the Garden City Police Department and the Nassau County Police Department in the investigation.
- As a result of a traffic stop of a truck on Stewart Avenue and Clinch Avenue on Aug. 19, a 35-year-old man from Queens was cited for driving with two license suspensions and multiple equipment violations.
- As a result of a domestic incident investigation on Aug. 20, a 45-year-old man from Garden City was arrested for violating the stipulations of an order of protection at another family member’s home. He was charged with criminal contempt.
- A bicycle locked to an exterior wall on Franklin Court was reported stolen on Aug. 20.
- During the early morning hours of Aug. 20, firefighters and officers responded to a water line break at a Franklin Avenue commercial building, resulting in flooding in the area, including the basement of the building. The firefighters located and turned off the main water supply to the building.
- A Franklin Avenue business reported a fraudulent check for $7,500 was written against the company’s bank account on Aug. 20.
