Nassau Man Arrested For Drive-By Shooting: Police
Police say he fired several shots at his victim, then fled when officers tried to arrest him.

Nassau police say they arrested a Williston Park man and charged him with attempted murder for a drive-by shooting Wednesday evening in Hempstead.
According to Nassau County Gang Investigations Squad detectives, Akini Gibbs, 34, of Willis Avenue, was driving a gray 2009 BMW, with a passenger in the car, on Jackson Street in Hempstead just before 7 p.m. Police say he then took a handgun from under his seat and fire several shots at an unknown victim.
Hempstead police officers responded to a Shot Spotter notification and allegedly saw Gibbs's car on Front Street. Police say he fled on foot, but was caught a short time later in a garage on Phoenix Street.

Police say they recovered shell casings at the scene of the shooting.
Gibbs is charged with second-degree murder (attempt), second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree burglary and third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
