Nassau Man Attacked Social Worker: Police

A Bethpage man was arrested Tuesday morning after police say he assaulted a social worker who was trying to help him.

According to police, while being evaluated by a social worker at the Nassau County Social Services Building in East Garden City, Richard Schipani, 63, of South Oyster Bay Road, became combative and threw her to the ground, and then began punching her in the head and chest. Police arrived, and after a brief struggle, were able to place Schipani under arrest.

The social worker was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Schipani was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 17 at First District Court in Hempstead.
