Nassau Man Convicted Of Shooting Sister's Boyfriend

Officials say the victim still has a bullet lodged in his chest that doctors couldn't remove.

A Hempstead man was convicted on Friday on a list of charges related to him shooting his sister's boyfriend in 2016.

Christopher Glass, 40, was convicted of assault and weapons charges charges for shooting the man in July, 2016. The jury deliberated for four hours before convicting Glass. He is due back in court for sentencing on May 24, and could face up to 15 years behind bars.

“This defendant could have killed his victim when he shot him in the chest, causing permanent injuries with a bullet that cannot safely be removed,” said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. “We are committed to aggressively fighting gun violence in Nassau County. Thanks to the work of the Nassau County Police Department and our prosecutors, this defendant will be held accountable for this heinous crime.”

Around 5 a.m. on July 29, 2016, Singas said the victim arrived at an apartment building on Terrace Avenue in Hempstead to speak to Glass's sister. Glass went outside and asked the man to come over so they could speak, then drew a gun and fired two shots, hitting the man in the chest.

Glass fled the scene, and the man was taken to Winthrop Hospital. The bullet is still lodged in the man's chest because doctors thought it was too dangerous to try to remove it.
