Nassau Man Dragged Officer With Car While Fleeing Arrest: Police

Police say the man was fleeing a routine traffic stop when he injured the officer.

Nassau police arrested a man from Hempstead on Sunday after police say he dragged an officer in his car while trying to flee arrest.

According to police, officers stopped Dwayne Henderson, 21, of Terrace Avenue, Hempstead, for a routine traffic stop on Greenwich Street in Hempstead at 5:21 p.m. As officers approached the car, police say Henderson tried to flee the scene, dragging one of the officers with him. The officer suffered cuts to both knees and elbows. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and released.

Officers found Henderson later on Macon Place in Uniondale, police said, and he got out of his car and ran away when officers approached. While the officers were trying to arrest him, police say he resisted arrest by flailing his arms and kicking his legs. Eventually, he was subdued and placed under arrest. Police say they found a back with what they believed to be crack cocaine on Henderson.
