Nassau Man Fled Officer In Stolen Car: Police
Police say the man was also responsible for a burglary last week.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Hempstead man was arrested Thursday morning after police say he tried to flee from officers in a stolen car.
According to police, at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, a Hempstead police officer saw a car on Stewart Avenue that had been stolen just minutes before from AAA1 Transmissions Auto Shop in West Hempstead. The officer tried to pull the car over, and the driver fled, police said.
The driver stopped the car on Dartmouth Street and fled on foot, police said. After a brief foot chase, the officer was able to arrest the driver — Dashante Daniels, 24, of Bennett Avenue.

Police say Daniels was also responsible for a burglary on May 16 at Fulton Used Cars in Hempstead.
Daniels is charged with third-degree grand larceny, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. For the May 16 incident, he was charged with third-degree burglary, three counts of third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
