Nassau Man Shot After Declining To Give Money To Another

Police say the man was shot in the leg, and his attacker then fled through neighboring yards to get away.

A man was shot while walking in Hempstead after police say he declined to give money to another man who asked for it, in what police are calling an attempted robbery.

According to police, a 40-year-old man was walking on Baldwin Road near Oak Avenue around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday when he was approached by a younger man who asked him for money. The man said he had none, and then the second man pulled out a long wooden gun, shot him in the leg and ran through nearby backyards to flee the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say the shooter was described as 25 to 27 years old, 150 pounds and had dreadlocks in his hair.
