Nassau Man Shot Teenage Girl In Foot: Police

He took the magazine out of his illegal gun and pulled the trigger, according to police.

A Hempstead man was arrested after police say he shot a teenage girl in the foot earlier this month.

According to police, at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, Denis Hernandez-Figueroa, 19, of Elk Street, had a handgun in a Jackson Street apartment. Police say he took the magazine out of the gun and then pulled the trigger, firing one round that struck a 16-year-old girl in her left foot. The girl went to a hospital for treatment.

After an investigation, Hernandez-Figueroa was arrested without incident.

He is charged with criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
