Nassau Police Charge Man With Murdering Teen In Parking Lot

A 22-year-old man, who was already in jail, was charged with shooting the teen to death in March.

A West Hempstead man already in jail was arrested Wednesday and charged in the murder of a 16-year-old Hempstead boy in March.

According to police, at 5:48 p.m. on March 13, Hempstead Police Department officers responded to a call for two gunshot victims, both 16-year-old boys, in the rear parking lot of the Rivoli House apartments, located at 40 West Columbia St.

Both teens were taken to a nearby hospital, where one died from his injuries. The other teen had a non-life threatening would and is being treated.

Police have now identified the teen who died as Josiah Tucker, 16, of Hempstead.

At 8:30 a.m. today, police arrested Sharayda Washington, 22, of Hempstead Avenue, Hempstead, in the Nassau County Jail, located at 100 Carmen Ave. in East Meadow. He was charged with second-degree murder, and is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.

Washington was in jail while awaiting trial on unrelated burglary and larceny charges.
