Nassau Woman Target Of Hate Crime

Police say she was assaulted by a man who was yelling racial slurs at her.

A Nassau County woman was the victim of a hate crime, police say, after she was attacked by a man who was shouting racial slurs at her.

According to police, a 53-year-old woman was talking on her cell phone while standing on the sidewalk of West Columbia Street in Hempstead just before midnight on Saturday, Oct. 13. While outside, she saw a man yelling at a woman, and asked the man to keep his voice down so she could hear her conversation.

Police say the man then approached the woman and repeatedly yelled at her using racial slurs. He then punched her in the face, causing a cut to her face and a broken tooth.

The assailant is described as a Hispanic man is his mid-20s to mid-30s, 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a medium build, medium complexion and dark hair. He was wearing a short-sleeved tan shirt and blue jeans.

Detectives ask anyone with information about this assault to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous, and you could receive a cash reward if your information leads to an arrest.
