Officer Fires At Stolen SUV During Chase In Nassau; 1 Hurt
The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene, struck several parked cars, a police cruiser and nearly hit an officer, police say.

A Hempstead Village police officer fired at car Tuesday morning after two men stole it and nearly ran him over, authorities say. The crash left one person injured.
According to Hempstead Police, officers were investigating a call for a stolen vehicle on Front Street at 7:09 a.m. During the course of their investigation, the driver of the stolen car fled the scene, struck several parked cars, a police cruiser and nearly hit an officer, police said. One of the officers fired two shots at the fleeing SUV, but didn't hit anything.
A short time later at the intersection of Westbury Boulevard and Fairview Boulevard, the SUV crashed into a box truck. The driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The two men in the stolen car were taken into custody.
