Officers Nearly Hit By Drunk Driver: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending July 24.

  • Two vehicles, one parked on Prescott Street and the other parked on Claydon Road, were reportedly entered during the overnight hours on July 17. There is no loss reported at this time.
  • Storm conditions resulted in multiple reports for residential alarms and fallen tree limbs on July 17. Officers assisted the fire department on Meadow Street for down power lines and power outages.
  • Officers rescued a rabbit that became entangled in a soccer net on Cambridge Avenue on July 17. The rabbit was not injured and was released.
  • The police department conducted a safe pedestrian detail on 7th Street on July 18; tickets were issued to four drivers for failing to yield to pedestrians attempting to cross at the crosswalks.
  • Officers investigated a report of a check being intercepted through the mail and rewritten to another party for $980 on July 18.
  • A truck traveling north struck the Cherry Valley train trestle on July 18. The truck was damaged and towed from the scene. The driver, a 58-year-old man from Maryland, was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs and uninsured operation.
  • Officers were conducting a traffic investigation on Clinton Road on July 19 when another vehicle swerved towards them, almost striking them. The vehicle was stopped and upon investigation, the driver, a 37-year-old man from East Northport, was arrested for DWI, failure to give right of way to an emergency vehicle and unsafe lane use.
  • Credit cards were reported stolen from a parked vehicle at the Cherry Valley Club on July 19.
  • A 2008 Ford SUV was reported stolen from the Garden City Pool on July 20.
  • A vehicle was entered on Suffolk Lane on July 21. There is no reported loss at this time.
  • A vehicle was entered on Damson Street on July 22. There is no reported loss at this time.
  • Two people stole an unknown amount of bins from the Garden City Post Office on Franklin Avenue on July 22.
  • Officers and firefighters responded to numerous storm-related calls on July 23, including flooding conditions, disabled cars, downed tree limbs, car accidents, traffic light malfunctions and alarms.
