Police, Fire Marshal Investigating Unexplained Brush Fires
Garden City Fire Department responds to four incidents in five days.

Garden City detectives, along with the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office, are investigating a series of unexplained brush/rubbish fires throughout the village.
The four incidents took place between April 10-15, according to Fire Captain Gil Frank.
On Saturday, April 10, at 10:16 p.m. firefighters responded to a brush/rubbish fire at Railroad Avenue and 4th Avenue near the Garden City Park border.

"On the same night, Garden City Park had the rubber bumpers burning on the loading dock of the old Pergament's," Captain Frank said.
Two days later, on Monday, April 12, firefighters responded to another brush fire on the border of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary and Nassau Haven Park at 8:43 p.m.

On Thursday, April 15, two more fires were reported; a brush fire on the Long Island Rail Road right-of-way in the rear of 92 Atlantic Avenue at 2:07 a.m. that damaged two sections of PVC fencing at the site and a rubbish fire at 3:38 a.m. in front of 79 Brook Street, where a large amount of rubbish was put at the curb for special pick up.
Captain Frank said the fire department does not know if the incidents are related but notified Garden City police and the county's Fire Marshal's office to open a case file.
"If nothing is on file there is no way of tying anyone to the incidents," Captain Frank said.
Police Inspector Kenneth Jackson confirmed the investigation is continuing.
