Police Manhunt Caused School Lockout: Garden City Police

On Nov. 20, a 22-year-old woman from Mastic Beach said she was walking across Franklin Avenue at Stewart Avenue when a gray vehicle ran over her feet. The vehicle left the scene. The victim suffered a minor foot injury.

On Nov. 21, the Garden City Police were notified by Nassau police of a suspicious gray car with out-of-state license plates. A Garden City police officer located the car on Kingsbury Road and saw the driver commit a traffic violation. The officer then saw two men get out of the car and walk up to the porch of a home. When the officer appraoched them, they could not give a reason why they were there and tried to run away. A third man, who was in the car, also ran off into the back yard of a home. The NCPD helped searching for the third man. A resident alerted police that he was trying to break into a car on Spruce Street, and police arrested him as he attempted to flee. The man, a 16-year-old from East Garden City, was arrested on an outstanding grand larceny warrant and additionally charged with grand larceny, criminal mischief and attempted grand larceny. The first two men, an 18-year-old from Bay Shore and a 20-year-old from Wyandanch, were each charged with possession of marijuana. The 18-year-old was additionally charged with driving without a license and driving with an equipment violation. During the investigation, the Garden City School District put the Hemlock School on lockout for the safety of the students.

A vehicle was stopped by an officer on Nov. 22 for aggressive driving violations on Clinton Road, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Bethpage for DWI, open alcohol container, excessive speed and unsafe lane change.

Garden City detectives arrested a 38-year-old woman from Westbury on Nov. 23 for the theft of merchandise from the Red Door Spa.

On Nov. 23, sunglasses and loose change were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Meadow Street residence, and loose change and electronic items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a different Meadow Street residence.

A bicycle was reported stolen from a Meadow Street shed on Nov. 23.

Loose change and an iPhone charger were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a First Street home on Nov. 24.

An iPad was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Meadow Street home on Nov. 25.

Three bicycles were reported stolen from an open garage on Locust Street on Nov. 26.

A leather bag was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Coventry Place residence on Nov. 26.

Money and a gift card were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Stewart Avenue home on Nov. 26.

On Nov. 26, as a result of heavy rainfall, officers responded to numerous locations within the village for flooding.

Officers arrested a 68-year-old man from Garden City on Nov. 26 for leaving the scene of an auto accident which occurred on Old Country Road earlier in the day.
