Police Officer, Recruit Take Their Oaths

Amir Latif comes to Garden City from the New York City Police Department; Recruit Christopher Caiazza entered the Police Academy December 3.

Trustee Mark Hyer, as appointed police commissioner, administered the oaths of office to Police Officer Amir Latif and Police Recruit Christopher Caiazza during a brief ceremony at Village Hall December 6, 2018.

Born and raised in Queens, Officer Latif graduated from John Jay College with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He aspired his whole life to become a police officer, joining the New York City Police Department as an administrative aide in 2011 and later becoming a police officer in 2014.

For the past three years, he was stationed in the 114th Precinct in Astoria. His last assignment was as the domestic violence officer.

Recruit Caiazza grew up in Lindenhurst, receiving a lacrosse scholarship to Saint Leo University. He later transferred to LIU Post College where he graduated with a criminal justice degree. Recruit Caiazza entered the Police Academy on December 3, 2018. “We look forward to him joining the department upon graduation,” Commissioner Kenneth Jackson said.
