Receiver Clavin Offers Convenient Payment Options for Taxpayers
Second Half 2019 General Tax Bill Deadline is Approaching on August 12th

Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin is currently collecting payments for second half 2019 general taxes, and reminding taxpayers about the many payment options available that can simplify paying property taxes. As the August 10th deadline for paying second half 2019 general taxes falls on a weekend, payments received through Monday, August 12th will be penalty-free.
“I am committed to making the process of paying property taxes as easy as possible for our taxpayers,” Clavin said. “During the peak payment period, hours at my office will be extended and our EZ-Pay drive thru payment window will be open to accommodate the volume of people who wish to pay their tax bills in person. I’d like to also remind the public of our online payment system, as well as our mobile and satellite offices which serve communities across Hempstead Town.”
Extended hours of operation will be in effect at the main tax office located at 200 North Franklin Street in Hempstead for the last 10 business days of the collection period. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 12th and will accept cash, check and money order payments. When making payments in person, please bring the entire tax bill; do not detach payment stubs from the bill. The EZ-Pay drive thru payment window located behind the main tax office (follow the signs on the corner of North Franklin and Bedell Streets) will also be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on these dates to receive check and money order payments. Satellite offices at Rock Hall Museum (199 Broadway, Lawrence) and Levittown Hall (201 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville) are available for the convenience of taxpayers who work or reside far from the Hempstead Tax Office. Satellite offices will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 12th, and can only receive checks.

Payment by credit card will incur a 2.3 % service fee, with a minimum charge of $1.50 for all credit card transactions. A flat fee of $0.90 will be charged for e-check payments. VISA Personal Debit transactions will incur a flat rate fee of $3.95 per transaction. Hempstead Town receives no portion of these service fees, which are charged by eGov Strategies, the company which processes the transactions.
Property owners can register for e-Billing, a service Clavin launched last year, which delivers digital tax bills to property owners via email. This environmentally conscious system gives subscribers the option to go paperless, if they choose to turn off the paper delivery of their tax bills. For more details and to register, visit bit.ly/tohebill.
To give taxpayers another convenient way of paying, Clavin recently unveiled his AutoPay feature, allowing for general and school taxes to be paid automatically by credit card or e-check. A charge against a credit card or an automatic withdrawal from a checking account will be made four times a year in total: twice for school tax payments, and twice for general tax payments. Visit our Payment Center for details and to subscribe.
“By changing the way taxes can be paid, we are hoping to eliminate all stress and hassle associated with the taxpaying experience,” Clavin said. “Our multi-faceted payment system gives taxpayers unprecedented flexibility, so they can choose what works best for them.”
