Reminder: Shovel Your Sidewalks

Village code requires that property owners remove snow and ice from sidewalks and paths within 24 hours of a snowfall.

The snow has stopped falling in Garden City - for now. It's currently raining but we could see another two more inches of snow before morning. You know what that means - start shoveling.

Garden City Village Code requires any property owner to remove ice or snow from sidewalks and paths within 24 hours of a snowfall, that includes any property that abuts a school bus stop in Garden City.

Failure to do so could cost you. The village board of trustees could have your sidewalks cleared and send you the bill.

Garden City School District officials are reminding residents to do the same to ensure student safety while children are waiting for their school bus. Students are currently on winter break and return to school Monday, Jan. 4 so this is important to remember for future snowfalls.
