Shop Holiday Windows to be Judged Dec. 9

Thirty-three year tradition encourages Garden City's business districts to show off holiday spirit.

For the 33rd year, judges representing Garden City's four property owners' associations, as well as a professional artist, will judge the shops along Franklin Avenue, Seventh Street and New Hyde Park Road Dec. 9 between 4:30 and 6 p.m. to select the 10 most beautifully decorated shop windows (to include restaurants) throughout the Garden City business districts this holiday season.

Judges will head south on Franklin Avenue from Eleventh Street at 4:30 p.m. then west on Seventh Street to designate the top 10 windows on Franklin Avenue and Seventh Street, one on New Hyde Park Road and one "Toast of the Town" (best overall).

Windows are judged for the most holiday spirit, creativity and originality. However, "walk-by, drive-by" visual impact is the bottom line. Shopkeepers are advised to make sure window lights have been turned on by 4:30 p.m. Winners will be showcased in the local press and on gardencity.patch.com and receive framed certificates designed by renowned Garden City artist Suzie Alvey.
