Teen Girl Approached By Man In Car: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 1.

  • Three forged checks totaling $8,000 were fraudulently cashed against a resident’s checking account on March 25.
  • At approximately 10 p.m. on March 25, an officer patrolling Clinton Road found a 9-year-old child who was reported missing. The child was reunited with their family.
  • Officers and the Water Department responded to a water line break on Kellum Place on March 25.
  • The police department is investigating a report of a 16-year-old girl riding her bicycle on Stewart Avenue in the vicinity of Eton Road when a vehicle drove past her, beeped its horn, turned around, approached her again. The driver then asked her a personal question before driving away. The incident occurred at 6:45 p.m. on March 26. The vehicle is described as a four-door black SUV and the driver is described as a 50-year-old man, heavy set, with a brown and white beard.
  • Officers responded to Merillon Avenue for a dispute between a jogger and a bicyclist on March 27. Upon investigation, the bicyclist, a 37-year-old woman from Mineola, was arrested for punching the female jogger in the face, resulting in an apparent fractured nose. She was charged with assault.
  • An officer on patrol found an in-street pedestrian crosswalk sign on Stewart Avenue and Meadbrook Road where there is no crosswalk on March 27. The sign was returned to the crosswalk on Main Avenue and Weyford Terrace.
  • Officers investigated an open front door at the Garden City Post Office on March 28. All interior doors were locked. All appeared to be in order.
  • Officers assisted firefighters who responded to a home for a smoke condition on March 28. Upon investigation, it was determined the condition was a result of burnt food.
  • A resident called to report a barbecue fire at their neighbor’s yard on March 30. Police and firefighters responded to the scene, and no injuries or damages were reported.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a report of an electrical fire at a home on March 31. The fire department reported that the fire was extinguished prior to arrival.
