Police ID Teen Gunned Down on Nassau Street Corner

BREAKING: The 15-year-old was found dead by police officers early Monday morning.

UPDATE 9:20 a.m. Tuesday: Nassau police have identified the victim as 15-year-old Josue Guzman, of Hempstead.

According to Newsday, Guzman's father, Raul, learned of his son's death when he called his son's phone Monday and a detective answered. Guzman was a 10th grader at Uniondale High School.

Raul Guzman told Newsday that his son wasn't into gangs or drugs. Guzman's mother learned about his death while in the hospital recovering from a fractured spine she suffered in a car crash.

Police are still investigating his murder. Detectives request anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

A teenager was gunned down early Monday morning in Hempstead.

According to detectives, Hempstead Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the vicinity of Laurel and Linden avenues at 1:03 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 15-year-old boy had been fatally shot at the intersection.

A woman who lives across the street told Newsday that five people have been killed within a block of her during the six years she has lived there.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
