Trio Arrested After Assaulting Cab Driver Over Fare: GC Police

Loss prevention officers from Sears reported two men entered the store on Oct. 24 and removed several items from the shelves, placed them in plastic bags and left the store without paying for the items. Total loss is estimated at $500.
Officers responded to St. James Street South on Oct. 24 for a report of a suspicious bag. Upon investigation, the scene was cleared after it was determined that the bag contained discarded food items.
Money and credit cards were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a First Street home on Oct. 25.

Officers arrested a 43-year-old woman from Queens at Lord & Taylor on Oct. 25 for the theft of merchandise valued at $350.
A vehicle was stopped by an officer on Franklin Avenue for excessive speed on Oct. 26, and upon investigation, the driver, a 22-year-old woman from Westbury, was arrested for driving with five license suspensions and excessive speed.

Officers investigated a report from a taxi driver who stated he was assaulted and his vehicle damaged by three women after having a fare dispute with them at the Mobil Station on Franklin Avenue on Oct. 26. The taxi driver said the women kicked him and the dashboard of his car and threw window washer containers, striking him and the hood of an uninvolved vehicle. The women fled the scene and were located and apprehended on Main Street. Police arrested an 18-year-old womn from Hempstead for criminal mischief, a 17-year-old woman from Hempstead for criminal mischief and assault and a 14-year-old girl for assault. The taxi driver suffered a minor head injury.
Officers assisted firefighters in the rescue of a woman stuck in an elevator inside a Franklin Avenue business on Oct. 26.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Oct. 27, officers responded to an attempted burglary at a Meadow Street residence. The resident, who was not home, saw a man in the rear yard of the residence via his camera system. When an officer arrived at the scene, the man jumped a fence and fled south. It was determined that the screen to a rear window was removed, but there was no apparent entry into the home. A vehicle apparently belonging to the suspect was found idling in the driveway of the home. The vehicle was impounded after it was determined to have been reported stolen in the Nassau County First Precinct. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers responded to numerous storm-related calls on Oct. 27, including tree limbs down, traffic light malfunctions and alarms.
Garden City detectives arrested a 35-year-old man from Mount Vernon on Oct. 28 for cashing checks belonging to another family member without permission or authority to do so. He was charged with larceny.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle property damage accident on Clinton Road at Pine Street on Oct. 28. Upon arrival, it was determined that one of the vehicles left the scene. After an investigation, the vehicle was located in Williston Park where the driver was arrested and charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
As a result of a domestic incident investigation on Franklin Avenue on Oct. 29, officers arrested a 54-year-old man from Long Beach for violation of a court order to stay away from his girlfriend. He was charged with criminal contempt and aggravated family offense due to a prior conviction for criminal contempt.
A laptop computer was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Tremont Street driveway, and a wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Brook Street driveway on Oct. 29.
A designer sweatshirt was reported stolen from a Garden City Plaza office on Oct. 29.
Officers arrested a 21-year-old woman from Rego Park on Oct. 29 for leaving the scene of an accident which occurred on the Adelphi University campus.
Officers responded to the Garden City Library Parking Field on Oct. 30 where an employee saw a man inside a village vehicle. The man fled the scene and was quickly located and arrested by the officers in Parking Field 7S. The 33-year-old man from Hempstead was charged with attempted petty larceny and a Hempstead Village loitering warrant.
Garden City detectives arrested a 30-year-old woman from Roosevelt for fraudulently removing $1,770 from a victim’s bank account on Oct. 30.
