Two Trucks Hit Overpass An Hour Apart: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Sept. 10.

  • A bicycle was reported stolen from in front of CVS Pharmacy on Franklin Avenue on Sept. 4.
  • A truck travelling north struck the Cherry Valley Train Bridge on Sept. 5. The driver, a 54-year-old man from Georgia, was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs. Approximately one hour later, a second truck travelling north struck the same bridge. The driver, a 30-year-old man from the Bronx, was also charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs. No injuries were reported at either accident.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle being entered on Tullamore Road on Sept. 5. There is no reported loss at this time.
  • Officers investigated a report of unauthorized deductions, totaling $23,500, from a resident’s bank account, on Sept. 5.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Garden Street driveway on Sept. 6.
  • A vehicle was stopped on Rockaway Avenue and 1st Street for traveling 60 MPH in a 30 MPH zone on Sept. 6. Upon investigation, officers arrested the driver, a 30-year-old woman from West Hempstead, for DWI, excessive speed and unsafe lane usage.
  • Officers responded to Greenridge Avenue on Sept. 6 for low-hanging utility wires due to a fallen tree limb. Officers also responded to Cathedral Avenue for a large fallen tree limb.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a parked unoccupied vehicle in Parking Field 5 on Sept. 6. Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a parked unoccupied vehicle on the Adelphi University campus the same day.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road on Sept. 6, a 53-year-old man from Huntington was charged with driving with four license suspensions and operating a vehicle while on a mobile phone.
  • On Sept. 7, Garden City detectives arrested a 25-year-old man from Hempstead for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred at Adelphi University on Aug. 31.
  • Officers responded to Meadow Street for a report of a man inside the fenced rear yard of a residence on Sept. 9. When confronted by the resident, the man fled the area. Upon search of the area, Officers located and apprehended the man on Garden Street. Upon further investigation, it was determined the man also stole three items from a vehicle parked at a Garden Street residence. The 36-year-old man from Hempstead was charged with criminal trespassing and larceny.
  • A vehicle parked on the Adelphi University campus was reportedly damaged by an unknown vehicle that left the scene without stopping on Sept. 10.
  • A 58-year-old man from Queens was charged with driving on Tanners Pond Road with four license suspensions, unregistered vehicle and defective brake lights on Sept. 10. A 46-year-old man from Queens was charged with driving on Franklin Avenue with four license suspensions and improper license plates.
