Uniondale Show Choir Advances to National Competition

Uniondale Show Choir is Chosen as the New York State Representative for the Show Choir of America Competition

Uniondale N.Y. (March 8, 2018) – The Uniondale Union Free School District announced today that its award-winning show choir, “The Rhythm of the Knight” has been named as the New York State representative at the 2018 Show Choir America competition in Orlando, Florida. In preparation for the competition, “The Rhythm of the Knight” will be holding a concert to benefit concert at Uniondale High School March 10 to raise funds for its members to participate in the national competition.

“The Uniondale School District is honored to have the opportunity to represent New York State in the upcoming Show Choir of America competition,” said Dr. William K. Lloyd, Superintendent of Schools. “As a district, we maintain a dedication to the expression the arts can offer young scholars; our show choir is a sterling representation of that dedication. This is an incredible opportunity for all students involved and we wish them luck as they head to the national competition in Orlando.”

The Show Choir America Orlando competition gives students the experience to compete with exceptional choirs from around the country, while also giving them the opportunity to meet and bond with fellow peers from many different schools. Along with competing, students will also have the opportunity to experience both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks.

To help ease the financial burden on the group’s members and their families, “The Rhythm of the Knight” will hold a benefit concert to raise money for the trip. The concert will also act as an opportunity for family and community members to enjoy a sneak peek into the group’s repertoire ahead of the competition. The benefit concert will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. Tickets will cost $20 with the option for a $40 V.I.P. package, which includes a front row seat, commemorative draw string bag and t-shirt and access to a reception with “The Rhythm of the Knight” ensemble members.

“Our students have worked so hard to achieve this honor, and all of us in the District are looking forward to seeing them shine at the national championships,” said Show Choir Director, Lynnette Carr-Hicks. “We strongly encourage all members of our community to come out to this fundraising event to have a good time and help support these passionate students. The Uniondale community is a passionate and encouraging one, and we hope they can continue their incredible support for the journeys of this talented group.”
