Man Stole From Multiple Nassau College Offices: Police

Police say the burglaries had been going on for months, but a sharp-eyed witness spotted the man on campus.

Police arrested a man from upstate New York on Saturday and charged him with a string of thefts from Adelphi College dating back to September.

According to police, Ronnie Garland, 30, of Dewitt, New York, entered multiple buildings on the Adelphi University campus, located at 1 South Ave. in Garden City, between Sept. 11 and Dec. 2. Police say he broke into multiple offices and stole laptop computers, books, a Nikon camera, a LCP projector, wallets, credit cards, cash, keys, backpacks and other personal belongings.

On Dec. 2, police say Garland was spotted on campus and the witness called Public Safety and the Garden City Police Department. Garland was arrested on Cambridge Avenue without incident.

Police say he also broke into a building at the C.W. Post campus located at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookeville.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding additional crimes at campuses throughout Nassau County to please contact the Garden City Police Department at 516-465-4150.

Garland is charged with five counts of third-degree burglary, attempted third-degree burglary, nine counts of criminal possession of stolen property and one count of possession of burglar tools. He was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
