Village Introduces New Citizen Reporting Tool
The service invites residents to report issues and allows the Village to review and take corrective action in a timely manner.

The Village of Garden City has launched a new program that will enable Garden City residents to report service requests through an online and mobile interface, encouraging civic participation.
Powered by SeeClickFix, the place-based reporting platform allows residents to submit a request for service on issues ranging from street light outages and potholes to parks, playgrounds and tree maintenance.
Residents can report service requests using the Village’s Website, www.gardencityny.net, their Smartphones, Facebook and www.SeeClickFix.com.

“This is just another example of how your Board of Trustees is trying to better communicate with the public and make our Village Government more relevant to everyone,” Mayor Nicholas P. Episcopia said.
When submitting issues via a mobile app, for example, residents can provide locational, descriptive and photographic information as they see the issue in real time. The free mobile app, called GC Connect, is now available for iPhone and Android devices and can be easily downloaded from the App Store.

The Village website’s “Request for Service” icon will also enable users to report anything from the field with their Smartphone camera, including downed tree limbs, potholes, even graffiti.
Users can email the photo using the “Request for Service” icon, and, with help from a GPS tracking system, Village staff can send crews out to the exact location. Once the problem is corrected, crews can then update and close out the work order. This will send an alert back to the user who first reported the issue, letting the resident know it’s been corrected.

“This system will improve the Village’s communication ability with the public,” Village Clerk Brian Ridgway said.
Launched in 2008, SeeClickFix allows citizens anywhere in the world to report and monitor non-emergency community issues. The citizen reporting tool recently surpassed 1 million issues.
