Village Tour of Garden City Facilities

Mayor, Village Administrator and Commissioners provide residents with inside look at Village operations

About 30 residents took advantage of the Village tour of facilities on Saturday morning, March 11. Mayor Nicholas P. Episcopia welcomed all the community and Recreation Commissioner Ocker led a tour of the new Senior Center. Everyone then got on the bus and traveled over to the Public Works yard where we got an in depth look at the facility. Commissioner Joe DiFrancisco and Village Administrator Ralph V. Suozzi led the tour. All the snowplows were in line getting ready for the incoming snowstorm and the new salt pit was fully stocked. Our bus then proceeded to the new ball field and the proposed new site of the playground for all children in Community Park. Next, we visited the Garden City Pool and Commissioner Ocker explained all the new features from disabled parking and handicapped entrances to the expanded amenities to village residents. Village Administrator Ralph Souzzi and Joe DiFrancisco spoke at our next spot, a water well on the Garden City Country Club that treats any water that may have been impacted by the Fulton Avenue plume. Our facility here is largely paid out of the settlement with Genesco. For residents this was a reassuring spot in that we could visually assess the work being done to keep our water up to standards. From here we went to the water tower on Old Country Road. The tower enables the village to distribute water even when electricity is cut off because of gravity. The village is now in the process of replacing this tower. Our Mayor Episcopia and Trustees Trouve and Delaney joined us for the tour and answered questions from residents throughout the morning.

Thank you Mayor Episcopia, Village Administrator Suozzi, and Village Clerk Karen M. Altman for a great tour and keeping our morning on track.
