Nearly one month after demolition of the water tower began, crews have removed the entire top bowl and are now working on the bottom.

“The job is progressing nicely,” Public Works Superintendent Joseph DiFrancisco said. “There have been no issues with traffic and the contractor doing the demolition has been adhering to all requirements. In addition, the air monitoring that was required by the Department of Health has shown no issues with air quality emanating from the site.”

The sidewalk in front of the tower on Old Country Road is closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to take approximately 12-14 months to complete. During the duration of the project you might periodically experience traffic on Old Country Road due to the entrance and exit of construction vehicles; continue to exercise caution while driving in the area.

It’s expected to take approximately three more weeks for demolition to be completed, weather permitting. Prior to the start of this project, the Village entered into an agreement with the Ethical Humanist Society that allows the Village to use their land adjacent to the tower as a staging area for this project. In exchange, the Village will restore and pave this area for them when the project is complete. If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please contact the Department of Public Works at 516-465-4003.
