The Art League of Nassau County welcomed award- winning and distinguished watercolor artist, Marc Josloff at its September meeting. He did a demonstration that was an impressionistic view of a dog, using a large photo for reference. The audience was delighted with his results in so short a time. Years of experience have made it look easy for Josloff to work quickly and with exuberance.
"An artist is best when there is an affection for the subject and process. With tonight's subject, animal portraiture, I try to instill the subject in the painting with vitality, which is even more important when it is a deceased pet. The portrait will be looked upon daily with great emotion, so it has to be good..." Josloff said.
Josloff uses various watercolor paints, mostly Winsor & Newton, David Smith & Holbein. His paper is Fabriano Artistico (artist grade) rough texture, 140 pound, and blocks of Arches rough 140 pound. His brushes are Rhapsody kolinsky round brushes (kolinsky hairs are from a male mink's tail), and dip into paints using a Stephen Quiller palette.
Josloff was featured in Watercolor Magic magazine (now Artist’s Magazine) as one of “11 Artists to Watch” and his work is part of several prestigious permanent, public and private collections, including the Art Students League of New York and the New York State Museum in Albany. He has been happily teaching drawing, painting and photography at the National Art League for the last four years and has given demonstrations and presentations all over Long Island. The Art League of Nassau County, formed in 1925, has four goals for its members: To exhibit their art in public, have workshops, to give artists an opportunity to join together in fellowship and to host monthly demonstrations by our area’s top fine artists in various mediums. It meets at the Clinton G. Martin Recreation Center, located at 1601 Marcus Avenue, at the corner of Marcus and New Hyde Park Road near Union Turnpike.
