This Week Crime In Garden City: Arson, Impounded Rolls-Royce, Car On Lawn, Garbage Can Fire
The Village of Garden City details its weekly crime report.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, May 5.

The items reported took place between April 29 and May 5 and are as follows:

May 5:
- During routine patrol, a GCPD officer observed a fire in the rear of a Stewart Ave. home. Several residents were evacuated, and GCFD extinguished a transformer fire. There was no reported property damage or injuries.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to Adelphi for a fire alarm, which was determined to be triggered by vaping.
- Garden City DD arrested a 36-year-old Flushing man after grand larceny and identity theft.
May 4:

- GCPD and GCFD responded to 7th St. for a report of a garbage can fire. Upon arrival, the fire was extinguished and determined to have been started by a cigarette being
thrown into the garbage can. - GCPD Detectives arrested a 69-year-old Rockville Centre woman for a larceny that had occurred at the Garden City Library in the past.
- Officers responded to Stewart Ave. for a four-car crash. No injuries were reported.
May 3:
- Officers arrested a 20-year-old Garden City man after criminal mischief involving breaking a car's windows, which caused approximately $1k in damage.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to St. Joseph's Elementary School for an automatic fire alarm that was activated by candles that had been blown out.
May 2:
- Officers responded to a Rockaway Ave. residence for a larceny regarding a delivered package that was taken from the front of the residence. Detectives are investigating.
- GCPD responded to the vicinity of Hemlock School for a report of a loose dog. Upon arrival, the dog was contained and removed by Animal Control.
- Officers responded to Tanners Pond Rd. for a crash involving an 80-year-old Elmont resident who suffered a medical episode while driving, side-swiped a parked vehicle, and collided with a tree. Minor injuries were reported.
May 1:
- A Garden City resident reported the larceny of a wallet containing $3,500 in cash from a parked car. Detectives are investigating.
- GCPD officers and Police Aides responded to Cherry Valley Ave. at Stewart Ave. for a traffic signal malfunction during the height of the morning rush hour. Traffic in the area
was monitored and directed until the condition was corrected.
April 30:
- Officers responded to an arson on Magnolia Ave. A shirt was doused with a flammable substance, set on fire, and placed on top of a vehicle. Detectives and Nassau County Fire Marshal's office are investigating.
- A GC resident reported that an unknown person opened a credit card in his name and spent $542.00.
April 29:
- An officer stopped a Rolls-Royce on Clinton Rd. as a result of a license plate reader hit. The car was impounded for having a suspended registration and no proof of insurance.
- GCPD responded to a Garden City residence for a resident who stated an unknown vehicle had driven across and damaged their lawn. The resident did not believe the damage was intentional.
- During routine patrol, a GCPD officer observed an apparent disabled Ford Explorer northbound on Franklin Ave. Subsequently, the apparent driver fled on foot and did not return. The abandoned vehicle was then impounded.
