GARDEN CITY, NY — The Inc. Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, March 31.

The items reported took place between March 25 and March 31 and are as follows:

March 31:

  • GCPD officers responded to Stewart Ave. at Emmet Pl. for a two-car crash. No injuries were reported.

  • The GCPD Youth Detective conducted a lockdown safety drill at Locust School that concluded without incident.
  • Officers responded to a report of a stolen bicycle, and detectives are investigating.
  • Identity theft was reported involving an altered check, resulting in financial loss.

March 30:

  • Officers assisted a homeowner in freeing a rabbit that was stuck in their soccer net.
  • A small brush fire was extinguished by an officer on 7th St., and GCFD was on scene.
  • A business manager reported identity theft regarding a check that was accused of being stolen and altered. Detectives are investigating.
  • Officers responded to Stewart Ave. at Washington Ave. for a two-car crash. No injuries were reported.

March 29:

  • GCPD and GCFD responded to an Atlantic Ave. residence for a report of power lines down. Upon arrival, GCFD determined that the wires were non-energized cable wires, and the proper authorities were notified for repair.
  • There was a report of a tree down in the roadway on Clinton Rd. GCPD officers and the GC Recreation Department responded to the scene to assist and quickly corrected
    the condition.
  • GCPD officers responded to Cherry Valley Ave. at 9th St. for a report of a car crash. Upon arrival, there was debris at the scene but no cars. Further investigation revealed that a 40-year-old Hempstead man was operating a 2014 Chrysler northbound on Cherry Valley Ave. when he apparently suffered a medical episode, struck one vehicle at 9th St., and continued northbound, colliding with a tree at Cherry Valley Ave. at 11th St., and the vehicle was then on fire, police said. Responding officers pulled the driver out of the burning car and away from the scene. No other injuries were reported, and GCFD extinguished the car fire without further incident, police said.
  • Officers responded to a restaurant for a report of a group of
    eight people who walked out on a bill totaling more than $700. Detectives are investigating.

March 28:

  • Officers responded to Nassau County Courthouse for a 'No Kings' protest. There were approximately 1,000 protesters. Several Nassau County units were at the scene to assist. One protester was injured from a fall while leaving the area.

March 27:

  • GCPD responded to a neighbor dispute regarding overgrown bushes on a power line.
  • Identity theft was reported by a Garden City resident regarding a possible unknown person gaining access to the resident's account. The total possible loss is $2,000, and detectives are currently investigating.

March 26:

  • Officers responded to Clinton Rd. for a three-car crash. No injuries were reported.
  • GCPD responded to Stewart Ave. at Devereux Pl for a two-car crash. No injuries were reported.

March 25:

  • GCPD officers responded to 7th St. in front of Iavarone Brothers for a two-car crash. No injuries were reported.
  • GCPD responded to Cathedral Ave. at Cherry Valley Ave. for a two-car crash. A 90-year-old Hempstead man was arrested for DWI. No injuries were reported.
