This Week Crime In Garden City: Road Rage, $87K Wire Gone Wrong, Stolen Bike Prank
The Village of Garden City details its weekly crime report.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, June 30.

The items reported took place between June 24 and June 30 and are as follows:

June 30:
- A GCPD traffic enforcement officer arrested a 36-year-old man for driving a 2004 Chevrolet van, which was unregistered and uninsured, while his license was suspended. The initial traffic stop was made due to an illegal U-turn on 7th St. The vehicle was impounded.
- Officers responded to a "road rage" incident on Cherry Valley Ave. at Stewart Ave. One person exited his vehicle and tore both mirrors off a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. Damage estimated to be approximately $1,000. The report was forwarded to the detective division.
June 29:

- While on patrol, officers found a loose dog on Brook St. and were able to make contact with its owner. The dog was returned to its owner without incident.
- GCPD assisted NCPD with a planned anti-immigration protest at the Nassau County Legislative Building. Approximately 40-50 people participated, and the demonstration was completed without incident.
- Officers responded to a report of youths possibly swimming in the pond on the Garden City Country Club grounds. The area was canvassed extensively with negative results.
June 28:
- A 31-year-old man was arrested for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation, and use of a portable electronic device while driving.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for a carbon monoxide alarm. GCFD received carbon monoxide readings throughout the residence and was able to ventilate and clear all carbon monoxide from the home. GCFD deemed the residence safe for occupancy, and no injuries were reported.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for an outdoor propane tank fire. As a result of the propane tank fire, a resident was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. GCFD ensured the propane tank was shut off and disconnected, and that no damage occurred to the residence.
June 27:
- Officers assisted the Hempstead Police Dept. with dispersing a large gathering on Franklin St. in Hempstead without incident.
- GCPD responded to a Garden City address for a report of landscapers using gas-powered blowers against the Village ordinance restricting the same. Upon arrival, there were no landscapers in the area.
June 26:
- Officers responded to Grove Park for the report of a stolen bicycle. The bicycle had been left unlocked and unattended for some time and is a black Specialized bicycle with white lettering. Detectives notified.
- GCPD responded to Hemlock Park for a possible stolen bicycle, which was deemed to have been moved as a result of a prank being played on the reporting party.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for the report of a propane tank leaking. GCFD shut off the propane tank valve and deemed the residence safe for occupancy.
June 25:
- GCPD responded to Grove Park for a report of a larceny of an unlocked bicycle. The stolen bicycle is valued at $800. A report was forwarded to the detective division.
- A Garden City resident reported a larceny. She reports that she is a bookkeeper for the family business and that she wired money to an email address she thought belonged to a client. The email was similar to the client's but was not his. Business is at a loss of $87,375. A report was forwarded to the detective division.
June 24:
- Officers responded to a Garden City residence for a report of a package larceny. Three packages of assorted items totaling $915 in value were reported to be stolen. A report was forwarded to the detective division.
- GCPD responded to a Garden City residence for a report of a package larceny. The homeowner’s Ring camera showed that three packages, with a total value of $66, were taken from his porch. The area was checked with negative results. A report was forwarded to the detective division.
