This Week Crime In Garden City: Tree Limb Fell On Jeep, Stolen Range Rover, And Shattered Glass
The Village of Garden City details its weekly crime report.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, June 9.

The items reported took place between June 3 and June 9 and are as follows:

June 9:
- GCPD officers responded to a Garden City residence for a report about noise and potentially an unknown person in the resident's backyard. When officers arrived, shattering glass was heard, and the Hempstead Police Department. was notified. A 62-year-old man was arrested after a collaborative investigation that found he damaged a window of a different residence.
- Officers responded to a home for a report of a package larceny. The caller saw a man on a bicycle take her $218 package in front of her house on the Ring. The Detective Division was notified.
June 8:

- Officers arrested a 66-year-old Westbury man after a DWI crash on Nassau Boulevard at Stewart Avenue. His car was impounded at the scene.
- GCPD responded to Cathedral Ave., the Garden School Administration building, for a report of damage to a fence. The investigation at the scene revealed that a vehicle had struck the fence.
June 7:
- A tree limb fell on a parked and unoccupied 2025 Jeep in the street. GCPD took the report, and the tree department was notified, as well as two other reports of downed tree limbs.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for wires down in the rear yard. As per the FD, all was safe, and PSEG was notified.
June 6:
- GCPD responded to more than 30 calls for tree limbs down, most of which were blocking portions of the roadway. Limbs falling were the result of a major windstorm. GCPD notified the tree department and forwarded a list of affected areas, ranked by urgency. Three of the limbs struck motor vehicles, two of which were occupied. No report of injury.
- A GCPD officer, as a result of a license plate reader hit, stopped a 2008 Range Rover with two occupants. The car was reported stolen to the Hempstead Police Department.
- GCPD responded to a report of fraud. The caller reported he wired $425 to the wrong account after following instructions from what he believed was a legitimate email address. The detective division is investigating.
June 5:
- A resident reported that a $6,024 check mailed from a USPS mailbox was stolen, altered, and cashed. Detectives are investigating.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to the Garden City Golf Club for an automatic fire alarm that was determined to be activated by steam from a water heater.
June 4:
- Officers responded to two different residences for different reports of gas-powered leaf blowers in use. No violations were observed at either.
- A Garden City resident reported that multiple Social Security numbers had been accessed and used to file fraudulent tax returns. Detectives are investigating.
June 3:
- GCPD officers, while on patrol, observed an unoccupied BMW SUV parked in the right lane of eastbound Stewart Ave. at Edgemere Rd. After several attempts to locate a vehicle owner, the vehicle was removed from the roadway via tow without incident.
- Officers responded to seven car crashes.
