What's Coming Up in Garden City This Week

Here are some ways to have fun and help out.

There are lots of things going on in Garden City next week. Here are a few you can add to your calendar.

Blood Drive at the Library

The New York Blood Center will hold a blood drive in front of the Garden City Public Library on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Due to an emergency blood shortage, area hospitals are in need of residents’ help. Each donation can help to save up to three lives. All donors will receive an electronic voucher for two tickets to see the New York Mets at Citi Field. This offer cannot be combined with any other promotional offer for blood donation through Aug. 9. Non-transferable, not redeemable for cash.

Donor Eligibility Criteria:

  • Blood Donor card or valid ID with signature or photo.
  • Minimum weight of 110 lbs.
  • Age 16 - 75.
    • Sixteen year-olds must have parental permission.
    • Donors age 76 and over must present a doctor’s note.
  • Eat well (low fat) and drink fluids that morning.
  • No tattoos within the past 12 months.

For medical questions concerning blood donations, call 1-800-688-0900. Call the Library at 742-8405 x210 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

Concert at the Gazebo

The village is continuing its longrunning and successful summer concert series at the gazebo, located on the Village Green at the corner of Stewart and Hilton avenues. The next show is scheduled for Thursday. It will feature the North Shore Pops.

The show will begin at 7:15 p.m. and admission is free. Please bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a very pleasant evening. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s School. Please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 if you have any questions.

Friday Night Promenades

Every Friday during the summer, the village closes Seventh Street from 6 to 10 p.m. for the Friday Night Promenades. This popular event allows people to enjoy outdoor dining, restaurant specials and live music. This week's theme is "Country Western.
