Woman Convicted In 2021 Crash Killing NYPD Det. From Long Island: DA

Jessica Beauvais faces up to 27 years in prison at her sentencing in December, the Queens DA says.

QUEENS, NY — A jury found a Hempstead woman guilty in the 2021 hit-and-run crash that killed an NYPD highway officer, the Queens district attorney announced.

Jessica Beauvais, 34, was convicted on Tuesday of second-degree aggravated manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, DA Melinda Katz said.

Anastasios Tsakos, 43, of East Northport, was killed as he stood at a roadblock on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 26 in Queen, the DA said.

“Her license had been suspended, her blood alcohol level was at nearly twice the legal limit and she had smoked marijuana," Katz said after the verdict. "The defendant had absolutely no business being behind the wheel. Her selfish decision-making and recklessness led to a horrific, senseless tragedy that left Detective Tsakos’ widow to raise their two young children without their father."

Beauvais admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana before driving on that night in April 2021, ABC 7 reported.
