1st Presbyterian to Host Memorial Day Weekend Multi-faith Service
Public Invited to Attend

First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove is honored to be hosting this year’s Memorial Day Weekend Multi-faith Service on Sunday, May 26th, at 3:00 p.m. The church is located behind Monument Park, at 7 North Lane, the intersection of School Street, North Lane, and Brewster Street. The congregation of the church is especially pleased that Faith Leaders from several houses of worship in the Glen Cove area are participating as we honor our War Dead.
The Multi-faith service is presented as one of several events sponsored by the City of Glen Cove’s Memorial Day Parade Committee during Memorial Day Weekend.
The service will open with an Honors to Colors for the four Veteran organizations of the city including American Legion Post #76 under the command of Vincent Martinez Sr.; American Legion Young Simmons Post #1765 under the command of Dave Hubbard; Veterans of Foreign Wars James Donahue Post #347 under the command of Benjamin Farnan; and Marine Corps League Dan Daly Detachment #225 under the command of Fred Nielsen.

After the National Anthem, there will be remarks from Mayor Tim Tenke followed by a welcome on behalf of First Presbyterian Church by Elder Gaitley Stevenson-Mathews. The service will offer a wide range of prayers, readings, and remarks shared by a faith and community leaders, including Rev. Roger C. Williams of First Baptist Church; Maxine Mayreis of North Country Reform Temple; Father Kevin Dillon of Saint Boniface Martyr Roman Catholic Church; Staff Sgt. Cherise Herrera of the U.S.Marine Corps Reserve; Rabbi Irwin Huberman of Congregation Tifereth Israel; Rev. Juanita Lopez of Iglesias Ciudad de Refugio Assembles de Dios; Rev. Gia Lynne Hall of Carpenter Memorial United Methodist Church; Harpal Kaur of Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Sikh Temple; and Chaplain Seemi Ahmed of the Islamic Center of Long Island. Retired Marine Evelyn Kandel, who served during the Korean War, will be presented a knot board created by Sophia Susi. Music for the service will be provided by organist Tori Iannacchino and trumpeter Josiah Aschalew.
The service will also include a multi-faith reflection by Father Mark L. Fitzhugh of St. John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church. It will be followed by a reception titled “My Freedom to Be”, highlighting the right of all citizens to worship freely, one of our nation’s founding principles, for which many have sacrificed their lives.

Refreshments will be provided following the service. All members of the public are invited to attend.
