Hispanic Heritage Month Grand Prize Check Presented at LI Lutheran High School

Representatives from Altice Present Grand Prize check for $1,500 for winning Altice Connects' Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest

On January 26, Sofia Altamura was presented with a Grand Prize check for $1,500 for winning Altice Connects’ Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. Attending the celebration were (l-r) Altice USA’s Allison Aylward, Lydia Ceballos (Sofia’s great aunt), LuHi & Upper School Principal Denis Scannell, Yara Altamura (Sofia’s mother), Sofia Altamura, Jon Carlos Altamura (Sofia’s brother), Michael Altamura (Sofia’s father), Assemblyman Michael Montesano, and LuHi Teacher Paula Oyarce.

This past fall, Altice Connects launched a student essay contest in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. Students in grades 6 – 12 who attended school in the communities that Altice USA serves with its Optimum and Suddenlink services, had the opportunity to submit an original essay in 500 words or less that answered the question; “Name a Latino, past or present, with whom you would choose to spend a day, and explain why?” A grand prize winner and 3 runners up have been selected in each of the 6-8th grade and 9-12th grade categories.
