Glen Cove receives $15K grant for city-wide cigarette litter, efforts to protect Long Island Sound (longislandpress.com) — Glen Cove has secured a $15,000 grant to tackle cigarette litter citywide by installing more than 20 new receptacles and distributing portable ashtrays at local events. The Beautification Litter Prevention Program will partner with TerraCycle to recycle collected butts and keep them out of storm drains that flow into Long Island Sound, and is inviting volunteers to help.
2. North Shore Historical Museum Presents: 'Reluctant Revolutionaries: Rebellion in the Age of Reason' (iloveny.com) — History buffs in Glen Cove can catch a September 10 lecture at the North Shore Historical Museum exploring how hesitant colonists became supporters of American independence. Historian Dr. Richard Harris will unpack Enlightenment ideas and key voices like Jefferson and Paine; admission is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.
3. Glen Cove E-Scooter Crash Victim Was Preparing For Comic Con Before Fatal Ride (dailyvoice.com) — A 23-year-old Roslyn man died after his e-scooter collided with a Jeep near Dosoris Way and Elliot Place in Glen Cove on August 19, according to Nassau County Police. His family has launched an online fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses as the police investigation into the crash continues.
4. North Shore cable project raises underwater concerns (newsday.com) — Glen Cove is directly represented on the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee, which says it cannot support the proposed Propel NY underwater cable route without stronger safeguards for shellfish, navigation, and property rights. The project would run high‑voltage lines through Hempstead Harbor and Long Island Sound, raising questions about clamming grounds, oyster restoration, and a major gas pipeline. Local officials are pressing for stricter protections before any work begins.
