[Locust Valley, NY] — Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club, in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), will launch Growing Minds, Healthy Futures, a new educational series designed to provide families and community members with information about important health and wellness issues affecting children and teens.
The first program, “The Vaping Epidemic: Understanding the Dangers of Nicotine Addiction,” will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club.
The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly opposes youth e-cigarette use and emphasizes the health concerns associated with tobacco and vaping products, particularly for developing brains and bodies.
The October program will provide parents, caregivers, educators, and community members with an opportunity to learn more about youth nicotine use and its potential effects. Topics will include how nicotine affects the developing teen brain, why young people can become addicted quickly, potential dangers associated with vaping and lung health, and connections between nicotine use and mental health, including anxiety.
The discussion will also focus on what parents, caregivers, educators, and community members can do to help young people make healthy choices and prevent nicotine use.
“Growing Minds, Healthy Futures” is intended to create an open and informative conversation for families while providing practical information and resources to help support the health and well-being of young people.
