Cleaning Lady Stole Elderly Woman's Jewelry in Glen Cove: Police
The theft occurred at an assisted living facility in Glen Cove, police said.
A woman who works at a Glen Cove assisted living facility was arrested Monday for stealing valuable jewelry from a 96-year-old woman, Glen Cove police said.
The elderly woman, who was a resident at Sunrise Senior Living, located at 39 Forest Ave., notified staff members in November that someone stole six valuable pieces of jewelry from her room.
An investigation by the facility and Glen Cove Police led to the home of a house cleaning employee who cleaned the elderly woman’s room the morning her jewelry went missing on Nov. 8.

It was discovered that the employee, identified as 53-year-old Maria Leyton of Glen Cove, was in possession of the stolen items, police said. She was arrested Monday and charged with larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property.
She was arraigned in Glen Cove Court in Monday.
