Dave Mejias, Divorce Lawyer and Former Nassau County Legislator, joins LGBT Network’s Board of Directors

Dave Mejias continues to advocate for equality on Long Island

Dave Mejias, an attorney of Mejias, Milgrim and Alvarado LLC and former Nassau County legislator, has accepted an invitation from the LGBT Network, an association of non-profit organizations that serve the LGBT communities in Long Island and Queens, to join their Board of Directors. Mejias has been a continuous supporter of the LGBT community in Long Island and has shown strong commitment to the LGBT Network over many years.

Mejias has advocated for equal rights for all citizens both through his career and in his charity endeavors with the LGBT Network. Dave Mejias states, “I’ve predicated my whole career in both politics and the law on fighting for people who can’t fight for themselves. As a Latino, I know full well the sting of prejudice. I know it has a corrosive effect on a democracy – and I also know that bigotry can seep into every part of our society, if we allow it to go unchecked.”

Dave’s contributions and guidance have increased the success of many LGBT programs, and the LGBT Network looks forward to the accomplishments he will bring as a board member. Dave Mejias has also spoken out through editorial letters and opinion articles on many LGBT conflicts and issues throughout the nation to further spread awareness and continue important conversations.

The LGBT Network consists of non-profit organizations: the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY), The Long Island LGBT Community Center (The Center), Services and Advocacy for LGBT Elders – Long Island (SAGE-LI), and the Queens LGBT Community Center (Q Center), each serving their local LGBT communities. The LGBT Network gives the means to confront harmful laws meant to deprive people of their basic rights, instilling in our youth and their parents an education and awareness of how people are supposed to be treated, no matter their religion, race, ethnicity or sexual preference.
