DeRiggi-Whitton Secures $20,000 For Downtown Improvements
Walkways, decorative lighting, benches, and other streetscape beautification will be made to Glen Cove's Business District

Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) secured $20,000 in capital funding through the County’s Community Revitalization Program for upgrades to a pair of heavily traveled pedestrian walkways in the City of Glen Cove’s downtown business district. The funding, which was approved by the full Nassau County Legislature on Monday, August 5, will be provided to the City through an intermunicipal agreement.
New decorative lamppost lighting and benches will be installed at the walkway located between 34 and 40 School Street, while the walkway situated between 27 and 19 Glen Street will be improved with new sidewalks, streetscaping and the installation of decorative lamppost lighting, benches and a pergola. Both walkways connect key portions of the business district to the City’s municipal parking garage.
“By making our downtown business district safer and more inviting, we support small businesses that make the City of Glen Cove such a unique and wonderful place,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “Glen Cove has a vibrant business community thanks to its outstanding restaurants and first-class entertainment exemplified by the Downtown Sounds concerts. I thank the Glen Cove Downtown BID and the City of Glen Cove for working closely with me to secure this funding.”

“Thank you to Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton for continuing to be a great Nassau County partner for the City of Glen Cove,” Timothy Tenke, Mayor of Glen Cove, said. “This is just one example of how she helps make Glen Cove the best it can be.”
“We are very thankful to Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton for all her help in securing this grant as well as Mayor Tenke and the City of Glen Cove for administrating the grant,” said Patricia Holman, Executive Director of the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). “Through this Community Revitalization Program grant, the Glen Cove Downtown BID will be able to purchase a pergola, benches and lampposts. This will not only add to the beauty of our downtown but will also serve as a welcome to our community and visitors. We look forward to seeing members of our community sitting on a bench enjoying a refreshment under the pergola.”
