Founded by in American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday® is a day to celebrate the small businesses that help support your neighborhood and is held every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Now in its fifth year, Small Business Saturday has been embraced as part of the holiday shopping tradition as each year shoppers, businesses and public officials come together to Shop Small® and show their neighborhood pride.

In addition the Downtown B.I.D. will kick-off its month-long “Play Downtown” campaign by distributing the “Downtown Playbook,” filled with great shopping discounts and free gifts offered by participating downtown businesses. The campaign will end with a lucky Playbook holder winning a $500 lottery. Be sure to stop by to support local businesses and receive Shop Small® giveaways like tote bags, buttons and balloons.

“The Downtown Business Improvement District traditionally holds its annual tree lighting and winter events as part of a kick-off to bring shoppers downtown. We are using the American Express Small Business Saturday campaign to get folks to come and ‘Play Downtown,’” according to Francine Koehler, the Downtown B.I.D.’s Executive Director. “We hope people will come on down and get to know our business owners and what we have to offer.”
