Federal Funding Denied For Long Island Sound Bridge
New York State is again considering a bridge or tunnel connecting Long Island to Westchester.

Over the past several decades, a bridge or tunnel connecting Long Island to Westchester has been discussed. New York State is again considering a bridge between Oyster Bay and Rye.
The Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway (NY 135) is named so because of these discussions that have come and gone over the years to extend NY 135 to Oyster Bay in order to provide highway access a bridge or tunnel.
Elected officials and community leaders gathered recently in Oyster Bay for a press conference to speak out against the proposed Cross Sound Bridge. “While a bridge would offer convenience to some, many more residents in Oyster Bay and other communities along the proposed bridge route and extension of NY 135 would be adversely affected,” Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton said. “The bridge and extension of NY 135 would be a three-lane highway in both directions. This would, not only seriously affect the quality of life in adjacent communities, but also wreak havoc on wildlife and the environment in general.”

Thankfully, the Federal government recently denied requested funding for the project so residents have another reprieve for the time being.
