Flags For Freedom Ceremony Honors Veterans

A tribute to Marine Sgt. Robert Hendriks will be at the forefront of the ceremony.

From Locust Valley High School: In the spirit of recognizing veterans for their service to our country, Locust Valley High School’s annual Flags for Freedom ceremony will include a tribute to former Locust Valley High School student Marine Sgt. Robert Hendriks. A current student will read inspiring words in his memory and the school’s Back the Blue Club will make a brief presentation in his honor.

In keeping with the ceremony’s traditions, local veterans carefully folded nearly 200 American flags, which they will hand to each high school senior as a graduation gift. Guest speakers will include Kay Weninger, president of Operation Democracy, among others. The American Legion will provide the Color Guard and musical performances will enhance the ceremony.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 20, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Locust Valley High School, 99 Horse Hollow Road, Locust Valley, NY.
