Former Glen Cove Resident Shot by Police in 2013 Faces More Drug Charges: Police

Leo M. Duchnowski has been arrested several times over the past few years.

A Long Island man who was shot by police in 2013 was arrested Wednesday for trying to sell another person Oxycodone pills in Hicksville, police say.

According to authorities, Leo M. Duchnowski, 25, of Hicksville, possessed and agreed to sell someone 10 blue-colored pills believed to be Oxycodone. He was arrested at 11:30 p.m. on N. Broadway without incident.

A subsequent search revealed Duchnowski also possessed a clear plastic bag containing a leafy substance believed to be marijuana, police say.

Duchnowski, formerly of Glen Cove and Oyster Bay, has an extensive criminal record:

  • He was arrested on drug charges in early October after police executed a search warrant on his home following a home invasion where his brother was shot in the chest in September, police say.
  • He was then arrested again in October for alleged drug possession in Glen Cove.
  • In July 2013, Duchnowski was shot by police after attempting to escape authorities during a drug investigation in Lattingtown, police say. He also allegedly struck a cop with a car during this incident.
  • In 2015, he then filed a $30 million lawsuit against Nassau County for being allegedly beaten and shot during a Bayville traffic stop in 2013, according to Newsday.

Duchnowski was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was arraigned Thursday in First District Court.
