From the Lens: Cool Glen Cove

With summer nearly over, we wait for that first true autumn day where we can whip out our favorite sweaters and  indulge in pumpkin flavored everything; but we're not quite there yet. 

Temperatures are still expected to reach high 80s in the upcoming weeks, so Patch explored the top five city hot spots that are not so hot.

Whether you want a quick bite for lunch, a way to waste away an afternoon, or just a cool place to sit down and read a book, these are the best places to beat the final days of heat.   

• Sweet Tomato, 170 Forest Avenue: This healthy eatery offers a venue for local students to express their artwork as well as cool place to sit, relax and enjoy a bowl of warm soup; and with the great air flow, you won't even notice that it's 80 degrees outside. The soup menu changes everyday, and according to the restaurant's website, filling up on healthy soup can even increase weight loss.
• Glen Cove Cinemas, 5 School Street: Movie theaters have a universal reputation for cool air. Luckily for Glen Covers, the city has its very own cinema right in the heart of the city. Catch a flick, then head next door to Starbucks for a cold drink (or a hot one; weather is inconsequential when it comes to air condition).
• Starbucks, 5 School Street: Not a coffee drinker? No problem. There's something for everyone at Starbucks, whether you're there for the chain's famous brew or something a bit less caffeinated. Their ready-to-go snack and sandwiches are delicious and relatively inexpensive, especially their selection of hot paninis. With free wifi, you could easily spend the entire day, and if you see Patch working hard at the corner table, don't forget to say hi. 
• Glen Cove Public Library, 4 Glen Cove Avenue: With a wide variety of classes, groups and events offered, the library offers daily activities for all ages. Check our events calendar for dates and times. 
• Dunkin Donuts: 5 Brewster Street, 285 Glen Street: Another great coffee joint with free wifi.
