GC Police Department Joins Forces with SAFE and Tobacco Coalition
The Glen Cove Police Department has adopted a tobacco free grounds policy for police headquarters.

In an ongoing collaborative effort to advance a tobacco free community SAFE and the Tobacco Action Coalition (TAC) of LI would like to congratulate the Glen Cove Police Department for joining their growing network of community partners in this mission.
After meeting with Dr. Sharon Harris, SAFE's Executive Director, and Carol Meschkow, TAC's Manager to learn of about the initiative, both Police Chief Whitton and Deputy Chief Ortiz wanted to participate through adopting a Tobacco Free Grounds Policy for police headquarters, including vaping, to protect their visitors and staff from the dangers of second hand smoke. Further, as first responders and mentors for the local youth they realized how significant an impact they would be making in helping to change the social norms associated with the acceptability of smoking.
In true fashion as prominent leaders in the community they have once again stepped up on behalf of the welfare of the City of Glen Cove.
