GCBGC Kicks Off National Mentoring Month
Anton Seaman named Most Valuable Mentor for 2018

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club hosted its Annual Most Valuable Mentor recognition ceremony on January 22 to celebrate National Mentoring Month. The Club recognizes the supportive relationships that form and flourish each day through the Mentoring Matters Program.
Club alumni and staff Mr. Anton (Seaman), selected as the 2017 Most Valuable Mentor was honored at the event. Since becoming a Mentor in May 2017, Group Leader Mr. Anton has become a valued member of the mentoring program serving as a positive role model to all members, especially Club members Angie M., age 11, and Lisbeth S., age 12. “He’s always there for us and wants to see us do the right thing. He’s our hero” says Lisbeth.
Following the ceremony mentors and mentees in attendance enjoyed a game of kickball to “kick off” the Clubs yearlong Mentoring Program. Mentoring Matters affords Club members a unique opportunity to interact with Club professionals and community leaders individually and in small groups while receiving guidance, encouragement, and continued support. Throughout the year the Club organizes monthly activities and projects, to include a Mentor vs. Mentee Dodgeball Game and an Amazing Race Team-Building Contest.

Mentors are paired through the program to encourage and support their mentees through both the successes and challenges at school, home, and everything in-between. “We are proud of the growth within the Mentoring Matters Program. Pairing members with caring adults can create a path to a successful adulthood for our youth” shares Executive Director, Franca Trunzo. “We congratulate all of our mentors and Mr. Anton for being recognized as our 2017 MVM.”
