Glen Cove Baseball Trainer Lands Division I Coaching Job
Lou Bernardi joins Iona College as a pitching coach.

A Glen Cove baseball instructor has recently accepted a NCAA Division I coaching position at Iona College.
Lou Bernardi has been a trainer in Glen Cove for more than five years, has worked with players, ran camps and clinics and assisted numerous Glen Cove travel teams.
He now joins Iona College as a pitching coach.

“We are excited to have Lou come on board our staff,” Iona College head coach Pat Carey said on the Iona College website. “His experience and expertise will be beneficial to our program.”

Bernardi, a New Hyde Park native, graduated from NYIT where he is ranked third in all-time appearances and was a recipient of the 2010 Harld J. Hirschfield Memorial Leadership Award.

The right-handed pitcher went on to play in three professional baseball leagues. He spent time with Las Cruses Vaqueros in the Pecos Professional League, the Saint George Roadrunners in the Golden Professional Baseball League, and the New York Federals, a New York Developmental Professional League.
Bernardi served as an assistant coach with NYIT and LIU Post and was recently the pitching coach for SUNY Old Westbury. He helped lead the program to three straight Skyline Conference Championship games in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and the conference title in 2015.

Bernardi is the co-founder of the Bats for Buddies charity that helps players and teams acquire the necessary equipment and apparel to play baseball. He also served as the Assistant Director for the Special Olympics tournament in Cantiague Park in 2014.
